Orphaned in his youth, he was raised by his uncle, the Admor of Ratzfert, until the age of bar mitzvah, whereupon he came under the direction of his uncle, the holy Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, author of Divrei Yoel. He served as rabbi of Zenta and Sighet. In 1978 he succeeded his uncle in his position as Admor of Satmar.
