Lem Barney Signed and Inscribed Photograph to Michel Roux with 1984 Letter - Framed signed photograph of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Detroit Lions great Lem Barney, personally inscribed to liquor executive Michel Roux with a lengthy handwritten message and signature. Reverse retains an August 29, 1984 letter from Barney to Michel thanking him for the First Annual Bombay Gin Hall of Fame Tennis Classic at Copper Mountain. Interesting association piece with supporting provenance directly connecting Barney and Roux. Pre-owned, previously displayed condition with light wear and surface markings. One of Mr. Roux’s signature spirits at Crillon was absinthe, the anise-flavored spirit known for its popularity among 19th-century artists like van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec. It was banned by the United States in 1912 amid concerns that wormwood, one if its ingredients, which contained thujone, caused hallucinations. In 2000 Mr. Roux introduced a legal absinthe, Absente, which used a sister botanical, Southern wormwood, with only trace amounts of thujone.
