Spencer Lens Co. Antique Portable Monocular Compound Microscope Serial 35318 - This antique monocular compound microscope was manufactured by the Spencer Lens Co. of Buffalo, New York. The instrument is constructed from black-lacquered cast iron and polished brass components. It features a compact folding horseshoe base designed for portability. The optical assembly includes a monocular tube with a single eyepiece and a triple revolving nosepiece, which currently holds two objective lenses. One objective is engraved 16mm N.A. 0.25 SPENCER LENS CO. BUFFALO, N.Y. The microscope utilizes a dual focusing system consisting of a rack-and-pinion coarse adjustment and a micrometer screw fine adjustment located on the upper limb. The square stage is equipped with two manual spring slide clips. A plano-concave mirror is mounted on a swinging arm beneath the stage to provide illumination. The foot of the microscope is engraved with a circular maker mark that reads SPENCER LENS CO. 35318 BUFFALO, N.Y. Length: Approximately 13 inches (33 cm).
