American School Late 19th Century Moonlit Seascape Pastel Painting - This antique original art is a moonlit seascape pastel painting. The composition features a dramatic night scene with a full moon breaking through clouds to illuminate a turbulent ocean. Waves are depicted crashing against a rocky shore in the foreground with white foam highlights, while a sailing vessel is silhouetted on the horizon. The work is executed in a Tonalist style with a palette of deep greens and blues. It is housed in a large period-style frame featuring a dark textured inner border and a wide gilded outer moulding with a scalloped gadrooned design. The back is sealed with brown paper and includes a hanging wire. No signature is visible on the front of the artwork. This appears to be pastel - and could be William Henry Chandler.
