Extremely Rare Classic: Orchos Tzadikim, Prague, 1581, First Edition. Orchos Tzadikim, ”to instruct and enlighten the foolish heart of stone, and extract it from the muddy path”. This first edition copy is extremely rare. This first edition was published free of the errors that appear in many subsequent editions. The Yaabetz in his sefer Migdal Oz remarks that “Many printing errors appear in sefer Orchos Tzaddikim.” It is written on the title page: ”Small in quantity and high in quality”, and indeed it is. Without a doubt, this is one of the most important books of Musar and perfecting character traits in Judaism, and also one of the first. One of the most prominent overall messages in the book is: that there is no trait that is entirely positive or negative, but the person must balance the parts of his personality and give each part its desired place. A great wonder. A fundamental and profound message, which we so desperately need in our day. The identity of the author of the book is unknown, an intriguing and astonishing fact. How humble was this man of G-d, who chose to be a conduit and give the world his knowledge, without his name rising and boasting. And this is the essence of the lesson, the message, and the important teaching that the unknown author sought to give to the world. Prior to this edition, Orchos Tzaddikim was first published in Yiddish under the name Sefer Hamiddos in Isny. [58] Page size: 19.6 cm. Aesthetic copy.
