Rare Sefer Yesod of Kabbalah: Chesed Le'Avraham by Rabbi Avraham Azoulay,   Sulzbach, 1685. First Edition. An important work on the basics of the Hidden Torah, accompanied by interesting Kabbalistic illustrations, by the holy Kabbalist Rabbi Avraham Azoulay of Fez and later of Eretz Israel, the grandfather of the Chida. In the same year, two different editions of the sefer were printed, one in Dutch Amsterdam and the other in German Sulzbach. The nusach printed in the present Sulzbach edition is more accurate than the Amsterdam edition (and both were printed from inaccurate manuscripts). The author’s grandson, The Chida, wrote in his book, Shem HaGedolim, that the Amsterdam edition printed concurrently in the same year (See Item No. 184) is full of errors. Rabbi Yehuda Leib Maimon zt”l writes that the Sulzbach edition is the most complete and accurate edition, and was published from a complete and proofread manuscript (currently in the National Library). Unfortunately, later editions published their books based on the Amsterdam edition, with all its mistakes and erasures of some chapters. This edition contains 15 Kabbalistic illustrations, four of which do not appear in the Amsterdam edition. On page 13,2 there appears within one of the illustrations an interesting drawing of the ”Great Leviathan”, that the world stands on its fins (Seder Rabbah Bereshis 17).
