The Hakdama of the sefer contains and important historical description of the distress of the Jews of Jerusalem: "היינו חרפה לשכנינו... ויאכלו את ישראל בכל פה, הכלבים עזי נפש לא ידעו שבעה... עד כי אפס כסף, כלו כל הכיסי"ם... ועמך ישראל צריכין פרנסה... ותקצר נפש העם בדרך דרכי ציון אבילות... רבות רעות סבוני גם סבבוני עד כי אין הפה לספר יכולה”.
