R. Meshulam Zalman HaCohen (1739-1820), was a close talmid of R. Yonasan Eibeschitz. A prodigious Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in the distinguished community of Furth. He was one of the most well-known Rabbinical leaders of his time and was held in enormous esteem by his Rabbinical contemporaries. He corresponded with The Haflo’ah who refers to him as “The Sar HaTorah” and also received Halachic questions from R. Akiva Eiger. He was at the forefront of the battle against the nascent reform movement.
