Toras Nevi'im. By Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Chajes. Zolkiew 1836. First Edition. The Gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Chajes (1805-1855), known by the acronym MaHaritz Chiyus, was born in Brody (a city renowned for its outstanding Torah scholarship) and was known as a child prodigy, knowing Tanach by heart as a young boy. He studied under Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Heller, Rabbi Elazar Landau and Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margulies, (the Rabbonim of Brody) and developed into a prodigious Talmid Chochom. In addition to his vast Torah scholarship, he was also knowledge in the sciences, and was fluent in 5 languages .He corresponded with the Chatam Sofer In 1828, at the young age of 23 he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rav in Zolkiew at the recommendation of the author of Yeshuot Yaakov. but suffered greatly due to many opponents, who accused the young Rav of being a Maskil because of his proficiency in secular subjects. In 1852 he accepted the invitation to be Rabbi in Kalisch, however tragically 3 years later, at the age of 50, he and his wife succumbed to a Cholera Epidemic.
