Letter signed by Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzensky, Chol Hamoed Succos, 1925. R. Chaim Ozer Grodzensky (1863-1940), was born into a distinguished rabbinical family and was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. He initially learned in Eisheshok and later in Volozhin under R. Chaim Soloveitchik. He married the daughter of R. Eliyahu Eliezer Grodzensky, a leading Rov in Vilna (son-in-law of R. Yisroel Salanter), whom he later succeeded. He dedicated his life to the needs of the Jewish People and was recognized as the leading Posek and spiritual leader of his generation, consulted on virtually every Jewish communal issue. He played an instrumental role in preserving Lithuanian Yeshivos during the beginning of the Communist era, and led the yeshivas of Poland and Russia after the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939, arranging for these Yeshivos to relocate to Lithuanian villages.
