Rabbi Chaim of Sanz (1797-1836), author of Divrei Chaim, was accepted to serve as rabbi of Rudnik in 1817. In that town, he was drawn to Chassidism and became a primary follower of Rabbi Naftali of Ropshitz. He moved to Sanz in 1830, where he became the most prominent Admo”r in Galicia. Almost all the rabbis and Admo”rim accepted his authority and rulings. He left 15 sons and daughters behind and was privileged to see his descendants follow in his ways. At his funeral, close to 100 rabbinic descendants of his accompanied his bier, and over the years, the number of his descendants who became rabbis and Admo”rs is estimated to be in the hundreds.
