Letter by R' Zelig Reuvin Bengis and R' Moshe Stern of Bebreccen, 1953. - Letter written and signed by Rav Zelig Reuven Bengis , Jerusalem 1953. Also signed by Rabbi Moshe Stern of Debreceen . Letter regarding the importance of supporting the “Bais L’Pleitos” refugee home for orphan girls who had emigrated to Eretz Yisroel after WWII, to ensure that they are properly cared for in a religious environment. R. Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864-1953) was born in Shnipishok (near Vilna) and was known as a prodigy from a young age. When he was seventeen years old he went to study in the Volozhin Yeshiva under the Netziv, who called him the “Living Shas”. While learning at Volozhin, his reputation quickly grew and he was known as a sharp student and diligent learner. In 1892 he was appointed Rav of Bodki, Poland, and in 1911 he became Rav of Kalvarija, Lithuania. In 1938 he emigrated to Erets Yisroel to serve on the Eidah Ha’Charaidis where he remained until his passing. Author of Liflagos Reuven. Size : 27.5 x 21.5 cm.
