Victorian Mahogany Scotch Chest of Drawers with Barley Twist Columns - This Victorian mahogany Scotch chest of drawers, dating to the mid-19th century, features a characteristic six-drawer configuration consisting of two deep drawers stacked on the left side and four wide, full-width graduated drawers. The piece is constructed with mahogany primary wood and highly figured, book-matched crotch mahogany veneers on the drawer fronts. Secondary woods are pine and poplar. The chest is flanked by bold, spiral-carved barley-twist columns that terminate in large integrated blocks above scroll-fronted feet. The drawers are fitted with turned mahogany knobs and inlaid brass keyhole escutcheons. The construction utilizes dovetail joinery on the drawer boxes and a multi-panel backboard. No maker marks or signatures are present, though faint illegible chalk notations are visible on the back. Height: 54 inches Width: 56 inches Depth: 24 inches.
