Hickory Furniture American Masterpiece Collection Mahogany Block Front Chest - This mahogany block-front chest of drawers is from The American Masterpiece Collection by Hickory Furniture. Designed in the 20th-century Chippendale style following the Newport, Rhode Island, tradition, the piece features a distinct block-front facade. The top tier consists of three side-by-side drawers; the outer two are convex with raised shell carvings, while the central drawer is concave with a recessed shell carving. Below these are three full-width drawers with blocked fronts that continue the vertical lines of the upper tier. The chest is constructed with mahogany primary wood and a light-colored secondary wood, likely pine or poplar, for the drawer interiors. Drawer joinery exhibits machine-cut dovetails. The facade is fitted with polished brass batwing style backplates, bail pulls, and matching keyhole escutcheons. The chest stands on four ogee bracket feet. A brass manufacturer plate is affixed to the interior of a drawer bearing the inscription The American Masterpiece Collection by Hickory and the HF logo.
