American Federal Mahogany Slant-Front Desk - This American Federal style slant-front desk is constructed with mahogany primary surfaces featuring decorative swirl book-matched veneers on the fall-front lid. The lid opens on hinges to reveal a fitted interior compartment containing multiple pigeonholes and small drawers. The lower case is designed with four graduated long drawers, each ornamented with stamped brass oval backplates and bail handles. The entire carcass is supported by shaped bracket feet. While the form and materials are consistent with New York cabinetmaking traditions of the early 19th century, no maker labels or stamps are visible on the exterior or interior components. A pink rectangular inventory label is present on the lid with the characters 0, 1, 1, 2. H - 40 inches, W - 36 inches, D - 18 inches.
