American Flyer 322 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive - A vintage American Flyer S gauge Hudson type steam locomotive. The locomotive features a die-cast metal boiler shell and cab finished in black. The side of the cab is printed with the number 322. The underside of the central chassis is embossed with PATS PENDING. The underside near the front truck is embossed with the text MADE IN USA THE A. C. GILBERT CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. The model features a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement, though the trailing truck is not present. The drive wheels are metal with rims painted white, and the mechanism includes complex metal side-rods and valve gear. The underside reveals an internal electric motor with copper windings and brushes. A brown composition board is mounted to the rear of the cab with four brass-rimmed plug-in ports for an electrical harness. , The locomotive is incomplete, missing the rear trailing truck (photo 1) and the original tender car and wiring harness. The front pilot truck is detached from the chassis (photo 5). There is significant wear to the black finish across the die-cast body, including heavy accumulations of dust, grime, and surface oxidation (photo 1, 3, 4). The white paint on the drive wheel rims is chipped and discolored (photo 3). Surface rust is visible on the metal handrails and linkage rods (photo 1). The internal motor and wiring appear aged and are untested (photo 5). The rear electrical board shows some wear around the brass ports (photo 2). The die-cast pilot at the front appears to have minor structural wear around the coupling area (photo 4).
