בידספיריט | 1981-1982 A Pair of Frederick's
1981-1982 A Pair of Frederick's of Hollywood Lingerie and Fashion Catalogs - A pair of vintage mail-order catalogs from Frederick's of Hollywood, dating to the early 1980s. These staple-bound softcover publications feature stylized fashion illustrations characteristic of the brand's mid-century through late 20th-century aesthetic. The first catalog is identified on the cover as Volume No. 35 / Issue No. 255, Catalog No. 1401, featuring a woman in a leopard-print wrap dress. A diagonal banner on the lower right reads RAISE YOUR SEX APPEAL AND GET YOUR MAN! The back cover includes a Sea-Shine swimwear advertisement with an expiration date of August 31, 1981. The second catalog is identified as Volume No. 36 / Issue No. 261, Catalog No. 2101, with a cover illustration of a woman in a black evening gown accompanied by a man. The back cover carries a mailing address label for MATTHEW HOGAN at 6 PLOUGHMANS BUSH, RIVERDALE NY 10471, and indicates an expiration date of January 31, 1982. Both items feature the printed stylized logo reading Fredericks OF HOLLYWOOD with a registered trademark symbol. The interior pages consist of color and black-and-white illustrations showcasing contemporary lingerie, jumpsuits, dresses, and men's loungewear, including items such as ”Naughty Net” sets, ”Sea-Shine” Lycra swimwear, and ”Tempting Terries” for men. Both catalogs include original order forms and price information from the period. The publications are headquartered at 6608 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Calif. 90028. Both catalogs exhibit significant condition issues related to moisture exposure. There is prominent water staining and dark tidemarks along the bottom edge of the covers and throughout the internal pages of both issues (photos 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 12). Visible edge wear, corner creasing, and surface scuffing are present on both covers (photos 2 and 7). The paper stock shows general age-toning and minor foxing, though the printed illustrations remain largely bright. The staple bindings remain intact and the pages are complete. A mailing label is adhered to the back cover of the 1982 issue (photo 8).
