Dresden Porcelain Augustus Rex Style Teacup and Saucer Set - A porcelain teacup and saucer set featuring a lobed, quatrefoil form. The hand-painted decoration is arranged in panels separated by elaborate raised gold-paste scrollwork and borders. The panels alternate between polychrome floral bouquets on a turquoise ground and coastal maritime harbor scenes on an apricot ground. The maritime scenes depict figures, sailboats, and buildings against a pale sky with birds. The cup is fitted with a gilded double-scroll handle and sits on an unglazed foot rim with a molded ”X” design on the underside. The saucer features a matching quatrefoil design with a small central floral sprig. The underside of both pieces bears an underglaze blue mark consisting of the interlocking monogram ”AR”. This mark was famously used by Meissen and later adopted by Dresden workshops such as Helena Wolfsohn to denote pieces produced in the earlier Meissen style. The saucer measures approximately 5 1/4 inches in diameter. The cup measures approximately 3 inches across the rim, excluding the handle. The porcelain is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs (photos 1, 2, 4). The gilded decoration and hand-painted panels show high clarity with only minor rubbing to the gilding on the high points of the lobed rim and handle, consistent with age and handling (photos 5, 8). There is light shelf wear to the unglazed foot rims on the underside of both the cup and saucer (photos 10, 11).
