Bidspirit auction | Waterbury Clock Co. Granville Brass

Waterbury Clock Co. Granville Brass and Glass Carriage Clock - This antique mechanical carriage-style mantel clock, titled the Granville model, is constructed with a brass case featuring four beveled glass panels and a hinged rear door. The white porcelain dial features Arabic numerals, a railroad-style minute track, and a visible escapement. Centered at the bottom of the dial is the printed text MANUFACTURED BY WATERBURY CLOCK CO., U.S.A. The rear movement plate is stamped with the characters SEPT. 13. 1898. and Clock Co. U.S.A. The clock is powered by a spring-driven movement and includes a coiled gong chime. Included with the clock is a mercury-style faux-compensated pendulum and two winding keys. The underside of the base retains a black adhesive label with white text reading AMERICAN MANUFACTURE, / GRANVILLE / MANUFACTURED BY / Waterbury Clock Co., / Waterbury, Conn., U.S.A. along with listed office locations in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Glasgow, and Toronto. A small white adhesive sticker with the handwritten number 12 is also present on the underside. The brass case exhibits surface oxidation, tarnishing, and pitting throughout the exterior, most notably on the top and base (photos 1, 4, and 5). The dial shows discoloration and staining, primarily between the 5 and 7 o'clock positions (photo 2). The mercury-style pendulum is currently detached and resting in the base of the case (photo 6). The movement is non-functional in its current state and requires professional servicing to reattach the pendulum and address the internal mechanical condition. The glass panels show accumulated dust and residue on the interior surfaces (photo 3).
