Mission Arts and Crafts Quartersawn Oak Armchair Attributed to Limbert - A Mission-style armchair attributed to Charles P. Limbert, constructed from quartersawn oak with a dark fumed finish. The chair features a rectilinear, slab-sided design characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement. The backrest is composed of two wide, tapering outer stiles flanking two central vertical slats. A fixed back panel is upholstered in dark brown leather, secured by a perimeter of large, round-headed blackened metal upholstery tacks over a matching leather trim strip. The chair features wide, flat armrests with rounded ends, supported by vertical slats and showing through-tenon joinery at the front supports. The square-sectioned legs are joined by four flat stretchers. The fixed seat is upholstered in matching dark brown leather. The wood grain displays prominent medullary rays consistent with tiger oak. No maker marks or labels are visible on the exterior of the frame. The chair is in antique condition with significant signs of wear. The wood finish shows widespread scuffs, scratches, and areas of finish loss, most notably on the top surfaces of the armrests (photo 1) and the lower sections of the legs (photo 2). The leather upholstery is severely distressed, exhibiting heavy cracking and crazing across both the seat and back panel. There are visible tears and material losses to the leather in the center of the seat (photo 1) and along the lower edge of the back panel (photo 1). The upholstery tacks show some oxidation and surface wear. Structural joinery appears stable despite the cosmetic surface wear.
