Gerald Thurston for Lightolier Mid Century Modern Adjustable Floor Lamp - A Gerald Thurston for Lightolier mid-century modern adjustable floor lamp. This industrial-style bridge-arm lamp features a brass upright pole and a pivoting brass arm. The design incorporates a large, circular, black-painted domed metal shade. A notable feature is the secondary, smaller dome-shaped metal baffle located inside the primary shade, finished in off-white to provide diffused, indirect light. The top of the outer shade is accented with a central perforated brass vent. The lamp is supported by a heavy, circular weighted base. The electrical components include a brown two-core power cord and a socket assembly with a black plastic turn-knob. The lamp is shown illuminated, indicating it is in working condition at the time of cataloging. The lower portion of the upright pole features a black-painted section that transitions into the brass hardware. The lamp exhibits significant signs of wear and age-related deterioration. The base shows extensive finish loss, surface oxidation, and heavy rusting to both the top black-painted surface and the underside cast iron weight (photo 3 and photo 5). The brass pole and adjustable arm display heavy patina, spotting, and tarnish throughout (photo 1). The black-painted section on the lower pole shows substantial chipping and flaking (photo 3). The exterior of the black metal shade has numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of paint loss (photo 1). The interior off-white baffle and shade lining show staining, heat-related discoloration, and small spots of pitting (photo 4). The electrical cord and socket appear aged, and while the lamp functions, professional rewiring is recommended due to the age of the components.
