George Nakashima Woodworker Conoid Cushion Lounge Chair with Maple Burl Arm and Documentation - A George Nakashima Woodworker lounge chair, identified in the accompanying documentation as a Conoid Cushion Lounge Chair. The chair features a cantilevered frame constructed of walnut with a vertical spindle back and natural cotton or canvas webbing in a woven grid pattern on the seat. The underside of the rear seat rail bears a handwritten signature and date in dark ink reading Nakashima February 16 2005. The underside of the left seat rail is inscribed with the original client name Liebenberg. The chair is accompanied by a detachable maple burl arm, which is not attached in the primary images but is detailed in the provided studio sketches and invoice. The provenance includes a George Nakashima Woodworker, S.A. invoice dated 2/10/2005 for a Lounge Free Arm chair with a maple burl arm, a hand-drawn studio sketch titled ARMS FOR LOUNGE CHAIR signed Mira Nakashima and dated 3/10/04, and a printed Notes on Care sheet. As we only have one copy of the original order form, anyone winning furniture will receive a copy. Height: 32 inches Width: 35 1/2 inches. The walnut frame is in excellent original condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and use. There are small scuffs and nicks to the wood, particularly visible on the sharp edges of the base (photo 4) and the pointed tips of the back rail (photo 6). A small compression mark is visible on the edge of one wood member (photo 6). The woven cotton webbing is intact and structurally sound, showing light surface discoloration and minor sagging typical of use (photo 1). The included maple burl arm and documentation are in good condition.
