Bidspirit auction | Mira Nakashima Odakyu Maple Burl

Mira Nakashima Odakyu Maple Burl Side Table - A studio furniture side table featuring a highly figured maple burl top with a natural live edge and complex pitted texture. The tabletop is supported by a minimalist, angular trestle-style base constructed of a contrasting dark wood, featuring a vertical slab support, a diagonal brace, and a T-shaped foot. The underside of the tabletop is signed in black marker Mira Nakashima and dated February 10, 2005. Accompanying the table is a hand-sketched design sheet on George Nakashima Woodworker, S.A. stationery, signed by Mira Nakashima and dated 3/10/04, showing various maple burl shapes labeled D, E, and F. Also included is a studio invoice dated February 10, 2005, detailing an Odakyu table in selected maple burl, and a printed Notes on Care document from the studio. As we only have one copy of the original order form, anyone winning furniture will receive a copy. Width: 23.5 inches Depth: 20 inches. The table is in excellent original condition. The maple burl top shows a rich patina with a glossy finish and no visible scratches or stains. The natural fissures, voids, and irregular edges are characteristic design features of the material and the studio's aesthetic (photos 1, 2). The wooden base is structurally sound with no evident damage to the joinery. The signature and date on the underside remain clear and legible (photo 3).
