Bidspirit auction | Mira Nakashima Signed Maple Burl

Mira Nakashima Signed Maple Burl Odakyu Side Table with Original Documentation - A contemporary studio craft side table, identified as the Odakyu model, featuring a solid maple burl top and a dark hardwood base, likely walnut. The top consists of a single, thick slab of maple burl with intense figure, numerous ”bird's eye” details, and a natural live edge. The base is constructed in an architectural pedestal form with a central vertical post and four radiating feet joined with traditional woodworking techniques. The underside of the table top bears several handwritten inscriptions in dark ink: the client name ”Liebenberg” is written in cursive; below this is the signature ”Mira Nakashima”; and the date ”February 10, 2005” is written at the bottom. The table is accompanied by original provenance including an invoice from George Nakashima, Woodworker, S.A. addressed to Jean Liebenberg, a hand-drawn design sketch sheet signed and dated ”Mira Nakashima 3/10/04” showing specific slab selections for the order, and a printed informational sheet titled Notes on Care. As we only have one copy of the original order form, anyone winning furniture will receive a copy. Width: approximately 24 inches at the widest point Depth: approximately 20.5 inches Height: 20 inches. The table is in excellent original condition. The maple burl top and hardwood base retain a consistent high-luster finish. The irregular edges, voids, and pits visible in the top (photos 1 and 2) are natural characteristics of the burl wood and are intentional design features. There are no visible water rings, scratches, or structural damage to the joinery. The documentation shows minor creasing from original folding but remains clean and fully legible (photos 8, 9, and 10).
