George Nakashima Woodworker Mira Nakashima Lounge Free Arm Chair 2005 - A George Nakashima Woodworker, S.A. Lounge Free Arm chair designed with a solid carved walnut seat, spindle back, and an asymmetrical natural-edge maple burl slab right arm. The crest rail terminates with exposed mortise-and-tenon joinery and keyed through-tenons. The figured maple burl arm features an inlaid butterfly joint (Dutchman) to stabilize the natural split, supported by two spindles extending from the seat. The chair is raised on four splayed, tapered walnut legs. The underside of the seat bears a handwritten black ink signature and date reading ”Nakashima February 16, 2005” alongside a faint client pencil marking. Accompanied by documentation from George Nakashima Woodworker, S.A. including an original design drawing sketch for the arm signed by Mira Nakashima and dated 3/10/04, notes on care, and an order invoice. As we only have one copy of the original order form, anyone winning furniture will receive a copy. Height: 35 1/4 inches to the crest rail. Seat width: approximately 34 1/2 inches. Overall excellent condition. The natural inclusions, void, and bark pocketing on the live-edge burl arm are inherent to the wood and original execution (photo 2). Minor wood split stabilized with an original butterfly key (photo 2). The underside shows natural variation and workshop staining to the raw walnut surface (photo 4). No breaks, structural repairs, or looseness to spindles or legs.
