Emeralite No. 8734 Brass and Cased Green Glass Banker's Desk Lamp with Inkwells - This antique desk lamp features a brass-finished metal base integrated with a double inkwell and pen rest. The classic green cased glass shade is constructed with a white glass interior to diffuse light. A metal bracket beneath the shade is embossed with a cartouche reading PAT. AUG 15, 1916, EMERALITE, DESK LAMP, NO 8734, H.G. McFADDIN & CO, NEW YORK, U.S.A. The exterior of the glass shade retains a distressed green and red adhesive label with the characters EMERALITE, NO 8734, and MADE IN USA. The metal base is stamped EMERALITE and 8734 E. The lamp is equipped with a pull-chain socket and two square, molded clear glass inkwell inserts. The base includes two protruding hooks at the front designed as a pen rest. The fixture has been rewired with a brown plastic two-prong power cord. Width: 8.5 inches (shade). The antique lamp exhibits age-related wear throughout. The brass-finished metal base shows significant oxidation, pitting, and loss of finish across all surfaces (photo 1). A structural crack is visible in the metal casting on the back corner of the base near the cord entry (photo 10). The pull-chain mechanism does not work. The green glass shade is intact without chips or cracks, though surface fingerprints and minor scratches are visible (photo 12). The two molded glass inkwells are present but are missing their original metal lids (photo 11). The brown plastic wiring is a later replacement.
