A Collection of Antique Wooden Weaving Shuttles with Stamped Decoration - An assortment of five antique wooden weaving shuttles, comprising two distinct functional styles. Three boat shuttles are carved from a dark-stained hardwood, featuring a streamlined form reinforced with iron or steel tips. These examples are decorated at each end with hand-stamped concentric circle ”bullseye” patterns. Each includes a central cavity for a bobbin and a circular metal-lined thread guide on the side. One shuttle features a stamped cross symbol near a metal repair on the side (photo 5). Two additional shuttles are constructed from a lighter-colored wood in an open-frame style, equipped with thin metal wire tensioners. The largest boat shuttles in the group measure between 10 and 11 inches in length. Measurements: The largest boat shuttles measure approximately 10 to 11 inches in length (measured across the widest points against the ruler in photo 12). These antique items show signs of extensive use and age-related wear throughout. Visible defects include wood cracks near tension points and tips (photos 8 and 10), surface abrasions, and scattered scratches across the bodies. The metal components, including the reinforced tips and wire tensioners, exhibit oxidation and surface rust (photos 1, 11). One shuttle retains a small piece of cord through the thread eye (photo 5). The interiors show accumulated dust and fiber residue consistent with historical textile production.
