1950s West German Stationary Live Steam Engine Model - A West German stationary live steam engine model featuring a horizontal boiler and a single-cylinder piston assembly mounted to a rectangular base. The base and the boiler housing are constructed from pressed tinplate, with the housing decorated in a black lithographed brick pattern. The boiler is made of darkened brass and is equipped with a safety valve and a steam whistle with a lever handle. A curved metal pipe delivers steam from the boiler to a green-painted cylinder assembly. This assembly drives a cast metal flywheel with red spokes, which includes a drive belt pulley on the axle and a decorative governor. The unit includes a removable spirit burner tray located within the boiler housing. The underside of the base features a stamped line of yellow ink characters reading MADE IN W-GERMANY. Measurements: Length: 10.25 inches (across base) Height: 6 inches (to top of whistle). The tinplate base shows significant wear to the green paint, including scattered scratches and areas of surface oxidation, particularly visible at the corners and edges (photo 1). The red paint on the flywheel spokes exhibits minor chipping (photo 2). The boiler shows heavy heat-related darkening and a dark patina throughout, with visible verdigris and mineral corrosion concentrated around the bases of the top steam fittings (photo 3). The lithographed brick pattern on the housing shows some fading and light surface rust along the top edges where it contacts the boiler (photo 4). The interior burner tray is present, though the drive belt is missing (photo 5). Mechanical functionality has not been tested. The entire model shows an accumulation of dust and light grime consistent with long-term storage (photo 1).
