Circa 1920 Gebrüder Bing Vertical Model Steam Engine - A German stationary vertical model live steam engine featuring a cylindrical brass boiler with nickel or chrome plating, mounted upon a cast metal firebox and an octagonal cast iron base. The engine operates with an oscillating cylinder connected via a mechanical linkage to a side-mounted flywheel with six red-painted spokes. Functional components include a steam whistle with a turned wooden handle, a weighted safety valve, and a water level sight glass secured by a metal frame. The steam line is equipped with a small oiler. An impressed diamond-shaped mark is visible on the side of the firebox (photo 4), containing the capital letter G positioned vertically above the capital letter B, which identifies the manufacturer as Gebrüder Bing of Nuremberg. The top of the oiler cap (photo 8) features embossed multi-language instructions reading OIL HERE, HUILEZ ICI, and HIER OELEN. The lower firebox section contains circular ventilation holes and a rectangular opening intended for a burner tray. Height: Approximately 12.75 inches Base Width: Approximately 5 inches. The engine is in original, as-found condition with significant signs of age and use. The red paint on the base and flywheel shows heavy chipping, wear, and surface loss (photos 1 and 2). The nickel plating on the boiler is tarnished with surface scratches and areas of oxidation throughout (photo 3). Visible surface rust is present on the cast iron base and the sheet metal firebox (photo 4). The internal heating element visible through the base appears degraded (photo 5). The mechanical linkages and flywheel turn, but the integrity of the boiler seals and internal components is untested and unverified.
