Antique C. M. Sorensen Co. Electric Suction and Pressure Pump - This is an early 20th-century industrial electric pump designed for medical or laboratory applications, such as suction or atomization. The device features a twin-piston reciprocating pump mechanism constructed from cast iron and steel with a silver-toned finish. It is mounted on a rectangular mahogany-finished wooden base. Central to the mechanism is a large, black-painted spoked flywheel. A cylindrical reservoir unit with brass fittings is positioned at the top of the frame, connected by a curved metal tubular handle. The base includes a side-mounted metal bracket designed to hold a glass jar, and a small black toggle power switch is situated on the base plate. A rectangular metal identification plate is screwed into the wooden base and bears the printed inscription: C. M. SORENSEN CO., Inc. / MANUFACTURERS / NEW YORK / N. Y. / VOLTS CYCLES MACHINE NO. / 110 A & DC 2925. Additionally, the cylindrical reservoir features cast lettering that reads: C. M. SORENSEN CO. / NEW YORK. The top of the base is partially covered with a black ribbed composite or rubber matting. Length of base: 12.5 inches. The instrument is in heavily weathered, non-functional condition and is missing its original glass canisters and electrical power cord. There is a significant structural fracture through the cast metal support arm on the right side of the pump housing (photo 5). All metal components exhibit surface oxidation, pitting, and loss of original silver-toned finish (photo 1, 4). The mahogany-finished base shows heavy abrasions, edge wear, and staining (photo 4). The black ribbed matting on the base is severely degraded, with large sections cracked, brittle, and peeling away from the wood, exposing the wiring channels and internal base construction (photo 6, 7). The mechanical and electrical integrity is untested.
