Wilesco Old Smoky Live Steam Model Steam Roller - A vintage live steam model steam roller constructed from painted sheet metal, brass, and aluminum. The model features a horizontal boiler with a green painted finish, a single-acting cylinder with a piston, a red-painted flywheel, a pressure relief valve, and a steam whistle. The steering mechanism uses a red steering wheel to operate a chain-driven front fork. A sight glass for monitoring the water level is located at the rear of the boiler housing. The machine is fitted with a red-painted corrugated metal canopy supported by metal pillars. The wheels and front rollers are fabricated from aluminum with red-painted interiors. An oval red and silver adhesive label on the side of the boiler reads Wilesco in cursive script. A yellow triangular adhesive label on the front fork reads Old Smoky in blackletter script. A red oval label on the side of the chassis frame also reads Wilesco. The boiler includes a screw-in filler cap and a red-handled lever for operation. Length: approximately 12.5 inches Height: approximately 7.5 to 8 inches. The model shows significant signs of age and previous use. The green paint on the boiler and frame exhibits widespread scuffing, scratches, and surface dust (photo 1 and 3). The aluminum rollers and rear wheels show surface oxidation, pitting, and light scratches throughout (photo 1 and 4). There is visible surface discoloration and heat-related wear on the boiler casing (photo 1). The steering chain is present and appears functional (photo 3). The drive belt spring that connects the flywheel to the rear wheels is missing (photo 3). The red steering wheel and other red-painted components show moderate paint loss at the edges (photo 7). The water sight glass appears clouded with mineral deposits or residue (photo 7). The unit is untested for mechanical function.
