1959 USSR Soviet Exhibition New York Enamel Commemorative Pin - A rectangular commemorative souvenir pin produced for the 1959 Soviet Exhibition of Science, Technology, and Culture held in New York City. The badge is constructed from a base metal alloy with multi-colored cold enamel finishes. The face of the pin features a vertical composition with a blue background. Centered is a stylized white vapor trail sweeping upward from the left, juxtaposed against a red enameled Kremlin tower topped with a five-pointed star. The front bears three distinct inscriptions in Latin script: USSR at the top with a red-filled U, 1959 in the center, and NEW YORK at the base. The reverse shows a textured surface with a horizontal safety-pin style fastening mechanism. An impressed mark is located below the hinge of the pin, consisting of three Cyrillic characters in a triangular formation reading ЛМД. Height: 1 1/8 inches Width: 5/8 inch. The front enamel displays expected age-related surface abrasions and minor dirt accumulation consistent with its antique status (photo 1). The metal borders show natural tarnishing (photo 1). The reverse metal surface exhibits significant oxidation, pitting, and loss of original plating across the entire back (photo 2 and 3). The pin mechanism is intact and functional despite visible surface wear.
