A Pair of Antique Sterling Silver Modernist Paisley Clip-On Earrings - A pair of antique sterling silver clip-on earrings featuring a stylized, modernist paisley or comma-shaped form. The earrings are designed as a mirrored pair with a convex, domed surface finished with a deliberate textured or brushed effect. Each earring is constructed as a hollow form. On the reverse, one earring bears an impressed hallmark consisting of the letters AL positioned above a sunburst symbol. Below the sunburst, the word STERLING is impressed in block letters. The other earring displays a matching sunburst symbol with a small circular vent hole at its center, with the letters AL visible above the device. The earrings are fitted with ornate hinged paddle-back clips. Length: 1 1/8 inches Width: 7/8 inches at the widest point Weight: 7.024 grams (0.2258 oz t). These antique earrings are in used condition consistent with age. Both earrings exhibit surface wear, light scratching, and a natural aged patina to the silver (photo 1). Significant green verdigris and oxidation are present on and around the hinge mechanisms and clips of both earrings (photos 2, 3, and 4). A small circular vent hole is located at the center of the sunburst mark on one earring, which is a feature of the hollow construction (photo 4).
