Antique W & S B Gold Filled Monogrammed Photo Locket and Fob Chain Dated 1909 - This antique gold-filled locket pendant features an attached curb-link fob chain. The circular locket is decorated on the front with a radial engine-turned guilloche geometric pattern. At the center of the front cover is a small recessed circular setting containing a dark substance and a small gold-toned fragment. The back cover is engraved with a stylized script monogram that appears to be the letters L C D. The interior of the locket is fitted with two bezels. One side contains a black-and-white portrait photograph of a woman wearing a large feathered hat. The opposing side contains a circular paper insert with a handwritten ink inscription in German that reads Herb und halt mich lieb. 12 - 25 - 09. The interior bezels are both stamped with the characters W & S B followed by a five-pointed star. The locket is attached to a short length of curb-link chain by a small spring ring clasp. Diameter: 1 1/8 inches Weight: 12.135 grams (7.803 dwt). The locket and chain show wear consistent with their antique age. There is significant loss to the gold-filled finish across the high points of the engine-turned pattern and around the edges of both covers (photos 1, 3, and 7). The hinge area displays accumulation of green verdigris (photo 9). The central decorative element on the front cover appears to have a missing or damaged stone (photo 3). The interior photograph and paper note remain intact within their respective frames (photo 4). The spring ring clasp and hinge are functional.
