Antique Sterling Silver and Large Black Onyx Cabochon Teardrop Pendant - This antique sterling silver pendant features a large, teardrop-shaped black onyx cabochon. The gemstone is secured in a closed-back bezel setting within an ornate openwork frame. The silver mount is decorated with scrolled wirework, beaded borders, and small silver spheres as granulation accents. The bottom of the pendant is finished with three circular openwork loops. The piece is suspended from a tapered bail with vertical ridged detailing. The reverse of the bail is stamped with a rectangular cartouche containing the mark 925, indicating .925 sterling silver fineness. Below the silver purity mark is a second impressed hallmark inside a hexagonal border containing a stylized flower or star-shaped device; the internal details of this second mark are not clearly legible as a name or maker. Length: Approximately 1.75 inches Width: Approximately 1.25 inches Weight: 9.376 grams (0.3014 ozt). The pendant remains in good antique condition. The sterling silver exhibits a significant aged patina with dark tarnish throughout the recessed areas of the design and on the reverse side (photo 2). There is a small area of green verdigris oxidation visible at the top junction where the frame meets the bail attachment (photo 1). The black onyx gemstone appears secure within its setting with a well-preserved polished surface, showing no visible chips or cracks in the provided images.
