Bidspirit auction | Antique Art Deco Brass Brooch
Antique Art Deco Brass Brooch with Faux Jade Cabochon and Blue Guilloche Enamel - This antique Art Deco period brooch features an elongated geometric openwork design characteristic of the early 20th century. The central element is a large, hexagonal-shaped cabochon set in a raised bezel. The semi-translucent green insert is composed of molded glass or early plastic, featuring internal swirls designed to simulate jade. The surrounding brass framework is decorated with textured repoussé scrolling patterns and four triangular panels of royal blue guilloché-style enamel over an engine-turned background. The reverse reveals a textured surface with no visible maker's marks, signatures, or hallmarks. A white base metal pin mechanism is soldered to the back, featuring a simple hinged pin and a C-clasp safety catch. The brooch remains in functional condition consistent with its antique age. The blue enamel panels are largely intact with only minor surface wear. The brass plating shows significant loss and thinning across the front edges and the entire reverse surface. Oxidation and verdigris are present around the solder points of the pin mechanism on the reverse (photo 3). The central faux jade cabochon exhibits numerous fine surface scratches and scuffs from use (photo 1). The pin stem is slightly bent but functional (photo 4).
