Antique Sterling Silver and Baltic Amber Brooch and Earring Jewelry Set - An antique jewelry set comprising a brooch and matching earrings crafted in sterling silver and Baltic amber. The brooch features a large, horizontally oriented, oval amber cabochon bezel-set within a polished silver frame. The frame is accented on one side by an openwork decorative foliate and floral spray. The matching earrings are composed of smaller oval amber cabochons, each bezel-set within a textured silver border featuring a beaded granulation ring and a rope-twist edge. The amber exhibits characteristic internal sun spangle inclusions and honey-toned transparency. The reverse of the brooch shows a purity stamp of impressed characters reading 925. Brooch width: 1 5/8 inches Brooch height: 1 1/8 inches Earring height: 3/4 of an inch. This antique set displays characteristics consistent with age and use. The brooch amber shows light surface scratches and minor internal fractures visible in the main stone (photo 1). The silver components exhibit a dark patina and tarnish throughout, particularly visible on the reverse of the earrings (photo 3) and the brooch frame (photo 4). The reverse of the brooch shows minor surface abrasions and typical wear to the silver (photo 5).
