Victorian Edwardian Oval Mourning Locket Pendant with Gold Foil Fruit Basket - An antique oval locket pendant from the Victorian or Edwardian eras. The piece is constructed from yellow gold-tone metal, likely gold-filled or rolled gold, and features a decorative trefoil three-lobed bail at the top. The front panel is composed of an oval black material, possibly glass or onyx, decorated with a gold-foil piqué or transfer design depicting a basket of fruit. The locket has a side-hinged opening and a snap-shut closure. The interior of the locket is hollow and exhibits remnants of a red material, likely from original memento mountings or adhesive. There are no visible maker marks, hallmarks, or metal fineness stamps on the interior or exterior of the item. Height: 1.25 inches (including bail) Width: 0.75 inches. This antique item shows wear and aging consistent with its period. There is significant loss and lifting to the gold-foil fruit basket decoration on the front panel (photo 1). The metal surfaces display overall surface scratching, scuffing, and tarnishing (photo 2). The interior is missing its original memento frames and glass covers, showing only a residue of red adhesive or pigment (photo 3). The hinge and snap closure appear functional and intact.
