Antique Modernist Sterling Silver and Malachite Pendant - This antique modernist pendant is crafted from sterling silver and features a large, oval malachite cabochon. The central gemstone is bezel-set and displays characteristic dark and light green concentric banding. The mounting consists of a large, oversized tubular bail connected to the gemstone setting by two symmetrical wirework scrolls. Each scroll is accented with a small silver sphere at the junction with the bezel. The back of the pendant is finished with a flat silver plate behind the gemstone. There are no visible maker marks or metal purity hallmarks on the piece. Length: 1 3/4 inches Width: 1 1/4 inches Weight: 15.181 grams. The pendant is in good antique condition. The sterling silver mounting shows a heavy, natural dark patina and oxidation throughout (photo 1). The metal displays minor surface scratches and faint pitting consistent with age and use (photo 2). The malachite cabochon has light surface scuffs and a natural area of crystalline texture variation visible under magnification (photo 3). The tubular bail and wirework scrolls remain structurally sound (photo 4).
