Antique Gold-Filled Circular Locket with Engraved Monogram and Twin Portraits - This antique circular locket is constructed from a gold-toned metal, likely gold-filled or a low-karat alloy. The exterior features a raised beaded millegrain border encircling both the front and back. The obverse is decorated with a deeply engraved interlocking script monogram; while highly ornate, the characters ”C”, ”W”, and ”M” are discernable. The reverse is plain and unadorned. The locket opens on a three-part hinge to reveal two circular recessed compartments. Each compartment contains a sepia-toned photographic portrait protected by a thin cover. The left portrait depicts a young child, while the right portrait depicts an adult individual. The internal rims are secured by tension rings. Diameter: 22 mm. The exterior surfaces exhibit heavy scratching and handling wear consistent with the antique age of the piece (photo 1, 2). There are two small circular indentations on the reverse side (photo 2). The interior compartments show areas of oxidation and tarnish along the brass-toned rims (photo 3). Both internal photographic portraits are significantly yellowed, faded, and clouded, with the left portrait showing visible cracking to the protective cover (photo 4, 5).
