An Assortment of WWII Sterling Silver Army Navy E Production Award Pins and 10K Gold Filled Army Sweetheart Pin - This collection of World War II-era United States military memorabilia includes multiple sterling silver award pins and a gold-filled sweetheart brooch set. The group features several Army-Navy E Production Award lapel pins of varying sizes, which were presented to industrial plants and their employees for excellence in war production. Each pin consists of a central wreath encircling a capital letter E, set against a background of red, white, and blue horizontal enamel stripes. The reverse of the larger pins bears the impressed text ARMY NAVY PRODUCTION AWARD STERLING. The smaller pins are similarly marked ARMY NAVY STERLING PRODUCTION AWARD. Accompanying the award pins is a two-part sweetheart jewelry set connected by a fine metal chain. One component is a circular pin depicting the Great Seal of the United States. The second component is a pin in the form of a mule, representing the Army mascot, featuring a black enamel saddle blanket with the word ARMY. The reverse of the mule pin is impressed with a crest containing the letters HHU and the mark 1/10 10K GF. Weight of four sterling pins: 15.027 g Weight of sweetheart pin set: 1.903 g Length of collection as pictured: approximately 5.5 inches. This antique collection shows signs of age and wear consistent with its era. The sterling silver award pins exhibit significant surface oxidation and tarnish (photos 2, 3, and 4). There is visible chipping and loss to the enamel, particularly within the white and blue sections of the larger pins (photo 2). The metal on the reverse of the award pins shows areas of surface corrosion around the pin-back mechanisms (photos 5, 7, and 10). The gold-filled sweetheart pin set shows minor surface scratches and some darkening of the metal on the reverse of the eagle component (photo 4). All pin-back assemblies appear to be intact.
