Bidspirit auction | Antique Pyrography Wood Trinket Box

Antique Pyrography Wood Trinket Box with Grape Motif - This antique wooden trinket box features elaborate pyrography and chip-carved decoration. The design centers on a large cluster of grapes with broad leaves that extend from the top of the lid and wrap around onto the front and side panels. The rectangular box is constructed with butt joints and features a hinged lid. The exterior surfaces exhibit a cross-hatched textured background created through wood-burning techniques. The box is fitted with a decorative brass-tone metal swing latch on the front and two matching hinges on the rear. The interior of the lid is lined with a yellow satin fabric that features a small red floral print in one corner. The interior base is unlined wood. The underside of the box bears several faint ink characters; while individual marks resembling 5, L, H, B, and S are present, they do not form a legible name or word. Width: 5 1/2 inches Depth: 5 1/2 inches Height: 2 1/4 inches. The box exhibits wear consistent with its antique age. There is significant finish loss and scuffing to the wood, particularly evident along the top front edge where several deep gouges are visible (photo 1). The pyrography decoration shows age-related fading and surface wear across the lid and sides (photo 2). The brass-tone hardware is functional but shows surface oxidation and patina (photo 4). The interior yellow satin lining is intact but displays several dark circular stains (photo 5). The unlined wooden floor of the interior has multiple red pigment marks or stains (photo 5). The base shows scattered surface scratches and faded ink marks (photo 9).
