Chilean Modernist Sterling Silver and Lapis Lazuli Sunburst Brooch - A Chilean modernist sterling silver brooch featuring a central slab-cut lapis lazuli gemstone. The rectangular lapis lazuli cabochon is royal blue with visible white calcite veining and golden pyrite inclusions. It is mounted in a bezel setting within an openwork frame designed as a stylized sunburst or crown. The frame consists of eight outward-projecting points, each terminating in a polished silver sphere. The reverse side features a horizontal pin with a rotating safety catch. The metal is stamped with an incised mark below the pin hinge that is not clearly legible as a name or standard. A white adhesive paper label is adhered to the reverse plate reading MADE IN on the first line and CHILE on the second line. Width: 1.625 inches. This antique brooch is in good condition. The sterling silver frame and backplate exhibit significant surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with age (photo 3). The lapis lazuli stone shows minor surface wear and very fine scratches visible under close inspection (photo 1). The pin mechanism and safety catch are fully functional.
