Mexican Sterling Silver and Crushed Green Stone Inlay Stylized Fish Brooch - A Mexican sterling silver brooch designed in the stylized form of a fish. The body of the fish features an inlay of crushed green stone, such as malachite or turquoise, accented with a small circular orange-red stone eye. The silver setting follows the outline of an Ichthys or Christian fish symbol. The reverse of the brooch is fitted with a horizontal pin stem and a rolling safety clasp. The back is impressed with characters reading 925MEXICO. Length: 1 5/8 inches Weight: 6.931 grams (0.2228 ozt). This antique brooch exhibits a significant layer of dark oxidation and tarnish across the silver surfaces, particularly on the reverse (photo 2) and along the inner edges of the setting (photo 1). The crushed stone inlay is intact but shows an irregular, textured surface as intended by the design (photo 1). The orange-red eye inlay is secure. The pin mechanism and rolling safety catch are in functional condition (photo 2).
