German Third Reich NSDAP Enamel Membership Badge GES. GESCH. - A circular Third Reich period NSDAP (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) membership badge. The obverse features a die-struck metal construction with an enamel finish, consisting of a translucent red pebbled outer ring and an opaque white center field set with a black enameled swastika. The raised metal lettering around the border reads NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE-N.D.A.P. The reverse is composed of a base metal with a soldered safety-pin style attachment. The back of the badge features an impressed mark consisting of two capitalized words separated by a space and periods: GES. GESCH. This mark is an abbreviation for Gesetzlich Geschützt, indicating legal copyright protection used during the early period of production. Diameter: 23 mm. This antique artifact shows signs of age consistent with its period. There is visible surface wear and fine scratching across the enamel on the obverse (photo 1). A small chip is present in the white enamel field between the top arms of the swastika (photo 1). The reverse shows significant oxidation and a dark patina to the metal surfaces (photo 2). The pin assembly is intact and shows surface corrosion (photo 2).
