A Pair of Antique Sterling Silver and Carnelian Toggle Back Cufflinks - A pair of antique toggle-back cufflinks featuring oval cabochons of carnelian bezel-set in a yellow metal. The central carnelian stones exhibit a deep reddish-brown hue and appear to be natural material with minor internal inclusions. Each cufflink face is bordered by a textured, knurled bezel frame. The toggle mechanisms are constructed with a standard pivot bar design. The metal displays a yellow-tone finish over a base that shows characteristic signs of age. While no hallmark or purity stamp is clearly legible on the components, these items are identified as sterling silver. Face Width: 0.75 inches. This pair of antique cufflinks exhibits signs of age and historical use. There is significant surface wear, pitting, and plating loss visible on the yellow-tone finish of the toggle mechanisms (photo 2 and 3) and the undersides of the cufflink faces (photo 3). The carnelian cabochons remain intact; however, one stone shows minor surface abrasions and small nicks to the surface consistent with an antique object (photo 1). The toggle hinges are functional.
