Bidspirit auction | Antique German Sterling Silver Handled

Antique German Sterling Silver Handled Embroidery Scissors for R. M. and Co. - A pair of antique embroidery or sewing scissors featuring ornate sterling silver handles and steel blades. The cast silver handles are decorated in a late Victorian or Art Nouveau style with a repoussé design of a five-petal flower on each side, set within scrolling foliage and bordered by beaded edges. Each handle terminates in a small decorative finial. The steel blades are joined by a single flat-head pivot screw. The steel component near the pivot is stamped with the retailer name R.M. & Co. on one side and the country of origin GERMANY on the reverse. The silver handles bear an impressed mark within an oval cartouche reading .925 FINE, indicating the purity of the solid silver. Length: 3 7/8 inches. The scissors are in antique condition with signs of age and historical use. The sterling silver handles show a dark patina and tarnish, particularly concentrated in the recessed areas of the floral design (photo 5). The steel blades exhibit surface scratching and areas of oxidation and pitting, most notably near the tips and around the pivot screw (photo 1). When closed, the tips of the blades show a slight misalignment (photo 6). General surface wear and minor dings are present throughout.
