Antique Two Section Marbled Bakelite and Vulcanite Tobacco Pipe Stem - An antique two-section tobacco pipe stem, often referred to as a bit. The upper component is crafted from decorative marbled plastic, featuring a butterscotch and dark green swirling pattern characteristic of vintage bakelite. The lower section is made of a solid dark brown or black material, consistent with vulcanite. The item is hollowed through the center for airflow. The wider end has a circular opening designed to mount onto a pipe shank, while the opposite end tapers to a flattened oval mouthpiece with a central smoke hole. No maker's marks, signatures, or country of origin stamps are visible on any surface of the object. Length: 2 1/4 inches Maximum Width: 3/4 of an inch Bore Diameter: 5/8 of an inch. This antique item remains in functional condition with signs of age and prior use. There is a notable chip on the rim of the wide circular mounting opening (photo 6 and 7). Surface wear includes fine scratches, scuffs, and minor dulling of the original polish, particularly on the dark tapered section. The mouthpiece shows no evidence of excessive tooth chatter.
