Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Antique Mexican

A Pair of Antique Mexican Sterling Silver and Abalone Inlay Articulated Chandelier Earrings - A matched pair of Mexican sterling silver articulated chandelier earrings featuring vibrant abalone shell inlay. Each earring is constructed in a two-part geometric form, comprising a triangular top section linked to a larger trapezoidal base. The silver framework is inlaid with pieces of iridescent abalone shell displaying characteristic hues of green, blue, pink, and gold in circular, triangular, and teardrop shapes. The base of each earring supports three suspended, teardrop-shaped dangles, each similarly inlaid with shell. The earrings are fitted with screw-back findings for non-pierced ears. The circular pad on the screw-back finding bears two lines of stamped characters: the top line reads STERLING and the bottom line reads MEXICO. Length: 3 1/8 inches Width: 1 1/8 inches Weight: 0.429 ozt. These antique earrings are in good vintage condition. The silver surfaces exhibit a natural dark patina and tarnishing consistent with age (photo 1). The abalone shell inlays remain secure within the silver cells, showing natural fissures and growth lines inherent to the organic material (photo 3). One earring has a small remnant of black thread caught in a jump ring (photo 3). The screw-back mechanisms are intact and functional (photo 4).
