Fred Harvey Era Sterling Silver Thunderbird and Crossed Arrows Bar Brooch with Turquoise - An antique silver bar brooch featuring a central decorative thunderbird motif, characteristic of the Fred Harvey era tourist trade. The bird is designed with outspread wings and a fan-shaped tail, detailed with stamped feather textures. Centered on the body of the bird is a single oval turquoise cabochon, bezel-set, displaying a green hue with natural matrix. The bar of the brooch is decorated with saw-tooth mountain stamps and terminates in stamped designs of crossed arrows and sunburst motifs. The metal is unmarked for purity, which is common for Southwest jewelry of this period. On the reverse, the bird's head and the bar feature impressed marks that appear as a series of small triangular or chevron-shaped stamps; these marks do not spell a name or maker and are not legible as specific characters. The piece is constructed with a simple pin and a C-clasp mechanism. Length: 2 1/8 inches. The brooch is in good antique condition. There is moderate oxidation and natural tarnish to the silver surfaces throughout (photo 1). The turquoise stone is secure within its bezel setting and exhibits natural surface variations (photo 2). The pin mechanism and C-clasp are intact and functional (photo 4). No structural damage or missing components are visible.
